Introduction to File Storage

Uploaded Image

Note Canvas has added a new "file storage" feature where you can store all your files. This file storage is separate from the location of the files and images that were uploaded from text boxes, image objects, or embed objects.

  • Uploading, and creating folders:

To upload files, simply click the right "arrow" button on the bottom right corner of the interface. From there, you can select either to upload or create a new folder.

  • Selecting objects

To select an object, simply click on the table cell. You will see a "check mark" on the top right corner of the page to know that you've selected it, and also a push of the table cell to the right.

Additionally, if you click said "check mark", it gives you the ability to select multiple files at once.

  • "Actions"

Click the "Actions" button in the top-right corner, and there are a variety of options. They're the type of options that you would typically see on your File Explorer on a PC when you right-click an item.

  • Toggling Display

Our current file manager has the option to view the file list by thumbnails. To do so, simply click the "Thumbnails" button as seen above. Here's how it would look like. By default, it is on "List" view.

  • Directory Traversal

If you had went to another folder, simply click the "Go Back" button on the top left corner.

If you want to go back to the root directory or another folder somewhere up the chain, simply click the "Files" folder, or any other folder in the breadcrumb shown below. "y_folder" and "x_folder" below are clickable, navigable folders.

  • Downloading a file

To download any file, simply select it, click the "Actions" folder as seen above, and select "Download".
